What Is Oxidation?

Oxidation is the chemical breakdown of your boat's gelcoat caused by prolonged UV exposure, salt air, and environmental pollutants. It starts as a dull, chalky haze on the surface and progressively worsens — fading color, weakening the protective barrier, and eventually exposing the fiberglass underneath. Left untreated, oxidation leads to permanent structural damage that no amount of washing can reverse. The only solution is professional compound cutting, polishing, and sealing.

Why DIY Fails

Temporary Results — Store-bought compounds lack the cutting power to fully remove oxidation. They mask the problem for weeks, not months, and the haze returns faster each time.

Risk of Damage — Incorrect technique, wrong pads, or too much pressure can burn through gelcoat permanently. Once the fiberglass is exposed, the damage is irreversible without costly repairs.

Uneven Finish — Without professional-grade equipment and experience, DIY work leaves swirl marks, holograms, and inconsistent gloss levels that make the boat look worse than before.

Our 4-Step Process

Every restoration follows a structured protocol for consistent, lasting results.

1

Prep

Full wash, decontamination, and surface inspection. We identify the severity of oxidation and map our approach.

2

Compound

Machine compound cutting removes the damaged gelcoat layer, eliminating oxidation, staining, and surface defects.

3

Polish

Fine polishing refines the surface to a deep, mirror-like gloss. Removes compound marks and restores optical clarity.

4

Seal

Professional-grade sealant or ceramic coating locks in the finish and provides long-term UV and salt protection.
